Your health..., naturally.

Naturopathy

Naturopathy, meaning "nature cure", is a system of medicine based on the belief that our bodies have an innate ability to heal itself. The patient is viewed as a complex, interrelated system - a whole person and the focus is on promoting health through natural, non-toxic therapies.

It focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of illness rather than simply treating symptoms.

The Core Principles of Naturopathy
  1. The Healing Power of Nature - The body has a natural ability to heal. Naturopathic medicine works to support and enhance these processes rather than interfere with them.

  2. Identify and Treat the Root Cause - Instead of masking symptoms with medication, naturopathy seeks to uncover the underlying reasons for illness—be it lifestyle, stress, nutritional imbalances, or environmental factors.

  3. Do No Harm - Treatments should be safe and non-invasive, minimizing side effects while promoting healing through natural remedies like herbal medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle adjustments.

  4. Treat the Whole Person - Health is not just physical—it includes emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Naturopathy looks at all aspects of a person’s life to create a truly holistic healing plan.

  5. Prevention is Key - Rather than waiting for disease to occur, naturopathic medicine emphasizes preventive care—helping individuals maintain balance, optimize wellness, and avoid future health issues.

  6. Doctor as Teacher - Education is at the heart of naturopathy! A naturopathic doctor empowers patients with knowledge, helping them take control of their own health through informed choices.

About Dr Jacky Hattingh

My passion for health and natural therapies has shaped both my personal interests and professional path. When I discovered the role of exercise in preventing and treating chronic disease, it felt only natural to pursue an Honours degree in Biokinetics—literally, “life through movement.” Though I stepped away from private practice for a time to work at a multinational pharmaceutical company, I returned in 2005, drawn back to the more personal and hands-on approach to care.

I’ve always been something of a cross-thinker, guided by a deep curiosity about how natural remedies and therapies influence the body. I view health through a systems-based lens—recognizing the intricate connections between body, mind, and emotions. I wanted to better understand how imbalances in one area could manifest across many systems, and how true healing begins by identifying and addressing root causes rather than just treating symptoms.

In Biokinetics, I learned that health exists on a wellness continuum—an idea that stayed with me, though I only later came to appreciate how we can intervene at every point along that spectrum to restore and elevate well-being. This curiosity led me to postgraduate training in Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine (USA), followed by studies in Translational Nutrigenomics. I’m also a board-certified comprehensive iridologist and hold a Doctor of Natural Medicine qualification from the University of Natural Medicine (NY).

More than anything, I value each patient’s story. I strive to be a partner in their health journey—empowering, educating, and supporting them to live healthier, more balanced lives.
